250 building plots always in reserve
Anyone in Papenburg who is young and wants to stay here, start a family or live at home in their old age needs an affordable home. I approach urban development from the perspective of people’s lives, not just the land. And I approach it so that it also carries those who come after us.
The problem
Affordable building plots are in short supply; many young families are unable to find one. Land has been lying fallow for years instead of being developed. And in the city centre, vacant properties are weakening the heart of the city.
Here’s exactly how I do it
- › 250 building plots, ready for development and marketable, always in reserve, spread across all districts, serviced to standards that will still hold up in 20 years.
- › To bring one area of fallow land per year from disuse back into use. Inside before outside: the gap in the neighbourhood first, the field on the edge second.
- › Closing gaps in the cycle network, with a binding roadmap to be finalised by 31 March 2027.
- › Breathing new life into the city centre and the canals, and actively tackling the problem of vacant properties.
- › One high-profile ‘enabler’ project per year, in which the city, local organisations and residents all play a part.
